Diane Portelli is a Maltese choreographer, dance educator and Director of Moveo Dance Company. She began her dance training at the Tanya Bayona Princess Poutiatine Academy of Ballet, training in classical ballet, modern, contemporary and flamenco. She holds DDE qualifications in Modern Theatre and is also a guest ballet teacher with ŻfinMalta, Malta’s National Dance Company.
With over 20 years of experience in dance and performance, Diane’s choreographic work blends contemporary movement, physical theatre and visual storytelling, often exploring social and human themes. Her work has been presented internationally at festivals and platforms including MASDANZA, Dance Festival Malta, DINAM Festival, Teatro No’hma, Gdański Festival and FIND Festival, among others. She has also created work for ŻfinMalta.
Diane’s work has received several national awards, including the Premju għall-Arti Artist of the Year award alongside Dorian Mallia, the STEAM People’s Choice Award for Diversely Typical, and Best Dance Production for Frida – My Two Accidents. In 2026, her project Ashes to Ashes was developed through artistic residencies across three European countries before being presented at the Malta International Arts Festival and Dance Festival Malta.
Alongside her choreographic practice, Diane is an experienced dance educator and artistic mentor and works with Arts Council Malta as an evaluator and funding monitor.
